Sumaiya Zainal Abidin is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering, University Malaysia Pahang. She begins her career as an academician in 2006 and has been serving the academic world for over 15 years. She obtained her PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Loughborough University, United Kingdom in year 2012. Most of her research work focuses on the area of catalysis, reaction engineering, and renewable energy. Apart from that, she also studies on the re-utilization of waste to wealth products and is actively involved in the research related to minerals processing, particularly the rare earth elements. Over the academic years, she managed to secure more than 30 national and international grants worth more than USD 500,000. She has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journals in high-impact journals (i.e., Fuel, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Chemical Engineering Science, Minerals Processing, Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering), 1 book, 7 book chapters (CRC Press, Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, Springer), and more than 30 conference proceedings. She and her research collaborators have also filed/patented more than 5 patents and won numbers of medals in national/international exhibitions. In terms of editorial work, she has served as the Guest Editor for Special Issue of Comptes Rendus Chimie, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering and SN Applied Sciences, Materials Today: Proceeding and Chemical Engineering Research and Design (Elsevier). She is also an active reviewer for many high-impact journals published by Elsevier, Wiley, Taylor & Francis and Springer. Through her involvement in professional bodies, she has become the associate member for few professional bodies, and in 2019, she was awarded with Chartered Chemical Engineer (CEng) from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), United Kingdom and Professional Technologists (Ts) from Malaysian Board of Technologists.
